South Africa's history of separating people based on peoples' skin colour has been tumultuous and made South Africa the pariah in the international community but gave rise to many anti-apartheid activists and freedom fighters who changed the social landscape of the country.

Among the sites to see are:

  • Soweto - includes Hector Pieterson Memorial & Museum, Vilikazi Street and Nelson Mandela's house, Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication (Freedom Square)
  • Lunch at a restaurant in the area - optional
